I'm guessing under 10 min. I got tickets right at 10 am. I was already too late for the best tickets in the house. I checked again at 10:10 and couldn't get through
We were 8th in line (in person at TM) and got the back row...tried not to look so happy for those poor buggers who were 15th in line... Lookng forward to it, saw Tom 18 years ago in Montreal.
Why Vancouver? I think that he is starting his tour in the great white north so that his early shows will not be as scrutinized by the media compared to a larger city. Think of it as a 'dress rehearsal" After the Europe swing is over I bet he brings the tour back to North America
I don't care why he chose Vancouver, all I know is I got 4 tickets it's my first show, in a 30 day period we get new albums from t. waits, n. cave, s. distortion, l. cohen. It's gonna be a great year!
Section R row 3 could be two things. If your seat numbers are under 100 (i.e., 60s/70s) then you are in the 3rd row from the stage on the floor. If they are over 100, you are in the 3rd row from the front of the balcony. There are four sections, Section R is all the way over to the right. Sounds like great seats either way.
I wonder what the record for selling out a show is... 5-10 minutes is pretty incredible.
I was told that they had sold 3000 plus seats for this venue.... in 10 minutes... REALLY??????
So the 5th row from the upper back second balcony, of the stage, and to buy a ticket for about $75.00 with tax and fee, then paying for, AIR FARE, and HOTEL, and TAXIS, and FOOD... and what evwer else comes along... you have spent $1000.00 Sitting in the back 40 was just not special even though I really would have been willing to spend a fair amount of cash to see his show.... but to "SEE" his show.
On the same theme, I've also just discovered "Leonard Cohen", he too is putting out a new CD this Oct 26-27...but he will also celebrate his 70th birthday this month of Sept. and alas he is not TOURING!
I'm hoping that TOM WAITS, decides to do a few USA shows on his return to the STATES! This is "HOME SWEET HOME", and all his fans are waiting.
Enjoy Vancouverites - the Mule Variations show in Toronto in '99 was a near religious experience. Counting on additional North American dates, couldn't justify the air, hotel, etc. (but wanted to).
I'm making the trip to Vancouver from Portland, Oregon. It will be my first stroll across the border.
Where is a decent play to stay near the venue? I'm trying to keep lodging costs under $120 US, if possible. Also, what is the late night food situation in Vancouver? Are there particular restaurants that someone could recommend that stay open late? I hope the grub situation is more akin to San Francisco (i.e., a lot of late night choices) than Seattle (where there is always plenty of booze but no food to be found at 2 AM).
Check hotwire.com - I checked yesterday and they had a 4-star hotel for $110 a night in the downtown area. And other stuff cheaper if you just want to save your $$ instead of splurging.

I've got orchestra tickets but discovered I have to travel out of town for work that weekend, I'd call in sick but work is quite precarious right now. Anyone want my tickets for a fair price?
Does anyone know how fast it sold out? It was at least as fast as the London show...
ReplyDeleteI bought my tickets at 10:01 - I checked again at 10:21, and there was nothing left.

ReplyDeletethe maps for the orpheum are slightly less than total crap. anyone know what section R row 3 refers to? thanks in advance.

What about upper balcony, Row 20, Seat 145?
ReplyDeleteIs that light hanging from the chandelier?
Or in the back 40?
This for 1 ticket.............

ReplyDeleteThis is a slightly more legible map (slightly).
Looks like that one is in the balcony about 5 rows from the back, but pretty close to center.
The good thing about TW playing such small venues, though, is that even the worst seats aren't so terrible...
