Waits on Kerouac
Tom Waits is one of the contemporary artists interviewed in the documentary One Fast Move Or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur. It's a 2008 movie, but I never saw it mentioned before, so it might be news to you too.
The documentary tells how Kerouac tries to cope with the fame that came after the publication of On the Road
and his retreat to Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s cabin in the Big Sur woods, where he starts working on his semi-autobiographical novel, Big Sur
.
Watch for Waits at 2:03 in the trailer below

'Jack was always very inspiring for me cause I was young and I was looking for a father figure. So, Jack Kerouac was really one of my father figures.'
