Southside Johnny will be performing 'The Songs of Tom Waits' together with the La Bamba Big Band tonight at the Nokia Theatre in NY as a part of the CMJ Festival. More info at the websites: CMJNokia Theatre and SSJ.
Just checked out the tunes on Southside Johnny's website. "Grapefruit Moon" sounds great, and I will buy that CD. I love the covers of Waits' older material, like 'Please Call Me Baby' and 'New Coat of Paint,' but it's all good! 'Walk Away' features Waits singing a duet with Southside Johnny, and it really swings, to use that old term. The big band sound reminds me of some of the tunes on "One From the Heart."
