Tom Waits has donated a rare photograph and a signed chapbook of poems to a charity auction benefiting the tuition assistance program at the Summerfield School.
The photo is a unique and truly collectible work from his oil stain series framed and signed by Tom Waits. The chapbook is also signed and features Waits’ poem “Seeds on a Hard Ground.” The proceeds will go to the Summerfield Waldorf School and Farm to support 35% of their students on scholarship.
This auction runs to May 16, 2011 with a live event taking place on May 14, 2011. To find out more and to bid on this and other items, just go here.

Supporting the David Lynch Foundation
Tom Waits is supporting the David Lynch Foundation by making available a live track: The Briar and The Rose, from what I suspect is the show at the Playhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland (July 28, 2008).
I'm afraid the unique signed issue of Alice created by Vinyl Arts founder Daniel Edlen is already gone (for a mere $750), but the entire18 17 track compilation is available at Pledge Music for $18.
All funds raised will go to support the work of the DLF in their global outreach.

HoF rehearsals behind closed doors
It looks like Gilt City was a bit premature in offering tickets for the rehearsals of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony (cfr. previous post). the LA Times is running a story the HoF board of directors considered "admission to the rehearsal part of the event was going to end up being too invasive on the artists".
Bob Seger's Downtown train
I just wanted to let you know Bob Seger is releasing Downtown train.

NPR broadcasts
Record company Anti reports NPR show Fresh Air will be rebroadcasting Terry Gross’ interview with Tom Waits "tomorrow". The announcement was posted on Thursday, so I guess the broadcast wil take place on Friday - i.e. today. The audio will also be posted at the NPR site.
I am not sure which interview is, but if it is the 2002 broadcast, you can listen to it right now in the NPR archives. You can also listen to David C. Barnett's look "behind the persona" of Waits on the NPR website.
Anti also mentions an upcoming story on Tom Waits in this Sunday’s New York Time’s Magazine. The NY Times website already has a nice picture of Robert Franks shooting Tom Waits and the story behind this 1985 photo shoot.
