It helps that Tom has a pretty good history with Letterman I guess, but that interview was real fun. Fallon was pressing and knew this was not someone with whom you could overcome dead air with a game of beer pong. It was obvious he had great respect for Tom, and it was funny to see his staff come out and occupy his sofa for a closer look @ Right Raised Men.
And I hope y'all appreciate Larry Taylor's body of work. I first saw "the Mole" in 1969 with Canned Heat, but he's played with many top musicians over the years, John Mayall's Blues Breakers stands out in my memory, but he was always much sought after for bands and sessions. You don't have to believe me tho, you can google

A truly remarkable rendition of "Raised Right Men", pure bliss from the word "go". Wonderful, just wonderful! Fallon was badly starstruck, though, and couldn't keep up with the flow...

it would've been better to hear another song than have fallon stumble through that interview so badly. mario batali snuck in there, eh?

And that'd be Jon Hamm in the baseball cap, too.

I think it's kind of charming to see somebody who interviews celebrities and musicians every night be so in awe of Tom Waits on his couch. I would have giggled like an idiot if I was interviewing him. Hot version of Raised Right Men..Whew. I hope hope hope this band if going to tour.
