The Orphans Tour which I have two tickets to!!!! YES!!!

However I am a little dissapointed. Here it is fifteen minutes after the tickets go on sale and you can still buy general admission tickets on the ticketmaster webpage. I was thinking this thing was going to sell out in less than a minute. Get on the ball people.

I have a US ticketmaster account but it's forcing me into International Will Call for deliver and it doesn't have the USA as a choice for country when it forces entry of a credit card. Perhaps others have had the same problem and that's why there's still tickets available.

The only reason you can buy gen admin tickets for Atlanta is that Ticketmaster's site is fucked. No surprise that they'd try to pull a fast one on fans, but when the only delivery method available tacks on a $2.50 surcharge for "will call for foreign attendees" there's not much choice but to bite the bullet/take it up the ass/grin and bear it/or your euphemism of choice.

Ticketmaster is only half a degree less evil than Satan's left nut, but at least I've got my ticket for the show.

I'd pay the 2.50 charge if I could have figured out how to enter my address since the only US choice was the outlying islands, and I happen to live in the Midwest. I have an account with Ticketmonster and it usually just uses my account information.

?????????????????????

We had the same problem as handlevandal.

Forced into International Will Call. Then not offered UA as a credit card choice. What the Heck! So we clicked the link next to the country drop down list and it took us back to the Delivery method selection page.

When we got back to the Credit info page we only had 30 seconds to complete and of course would could NOT.

We had balcony seats and we lost them all because of a poorly thought out and confusing process at TicketBast**d.

We got General Admission... still goin to see Tom (well unless our credit card gets declined since we don't live in the US Virgin Islands). I'll be. there early to get them tickets.

@handlevandal... did you end up getting you tickets then? did selecting US Virgin Islands also?

After 20 minutes they fixed the will call international problem, I ended up with one balcony and one general admission ticket, but I'm!

I've NEVER seen anything like that before. I don't know what kind of scam TM pulled this time, but it was complete crap. Had two great seats in 202, wound with 303 after they fixed the problem 20 minutes later. Good thing they tack on that "convenience" fee. If I thought complaining would do any good, I'd already be on the phone. At least I'm in, but that was waaay too stressful for this early in the morning. Anyone want to get a drink?

Matto - no, I didn't get a ticket. I'll try again next weekend I suppose since there are shows closer to me. However, I certainly would have made my way to Atlanta to see this. Anything in the states is "local" as far as Waits is concerned :D

I had all the same problems. Won't general admission tickets get us closer to the stage anyway? Yeah, Ticketbastard sucks but I am going to see Tom Waits live for the first time and it has been MANY years since I have been looking forward to a show this much. YEE HAH !!

What a horrific mess! I actually could NOT get tickets, even though I had tickets in my ques at leats 15 times!!! First, it was the international Will Call thing, THEN it was the fact that my credit card info was stored on TM, because I have an account, and it kept telling me that it was stored...no matter what way I tried to enter the billing info, it would NOT work. So periodically it kept releasing my ticketc. So then I would try again...by the time I figured out that I needed to go into my account and change my billing info so that there was NO INFO stored, there were no more tickets left. THANK GOD my neighbor bought two tickets, and one is for me. TM sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ran into the same problems that everyone else is mentioning with the "International Will Call" mess. I finally caught it shortly after they'd fixed it and managed to get two balcony seats.

I am so excited ... I'll be driving up from Miami with a friend. Thank you for posting the information about the concert. I wouldn't even have known about it if it hadn't been for this blog. I'm glad I'm subscribed to your RSS feed!

I guess I was the only one that got tickets over the phone.

I just got done doing tons of research about Atlanta hotels. Here's my scoop for all the out of towners Tom Waits comrades.

The club is located downtown. Most of the hotels downtown are chains. These chain hotels average around $130. Some are even above $200. Cockroach hotels are usually more my style. I searched high and low for a ma and pa owned hotel with no luck. The absolute cheapest I could was the days in. Right around $80 per night. It's got a pool and free wireless, so it's a pretty good deal for downtown. But here is the kicker, it's 4 blocks from the club! YES!

Other things you should know if you are going to book at the days inn. If you call the front desk his computer will tell him that he is booked up for those days. However, he doesn't have the most up to date info. You can still book these from the www.daysinn.com webpage.

I will be flying from California (I just bought a plane ticket for $400!!! UUUGH!!!) Two of my friends are driving up from Orlando and meeting me there.

So if anyone else decides to stay at the days inn they should let me so we can get together and turn that place into a big Tom Waits Convention!!!!

Rock and Roll.

Can't wait to see you there.

Another 411: If you are traveling from the west coast the best tickets I was able to find were from Air Trans and US Airways.

Hope to talk to some of you soon and remember: "Time is just memory mixed with desire" -TW

people, you are missing the point of this blog entry. Orphans Tour! which possibly answers a previous question of "will this be mainly Real Gone Material?" Personally I'd be stoked for a show which would be mainly Rare Tom/B-Sides.
What kinda of stuff do you think he'll play/ What rare (orphan) songs would you like to hear?

Anonymous said...

Any word on the touring band? I'm a big fan of Marc Ribot, love his work on Real Gone, but it doesn't seem likely that he'll be playing these shows.

Stray Dog would be great. I'd look forward to I'll Never let Go of Your Hand, I really dig that song. Also his version of Sea of Love.
I'm thinking he may focus on Anti/Epitaph B-Sides like Buzz Fledderjohn, and Anti-esque songs like Fall of Troy and A Little Drop of Poison. Blue Skies would be phenominal, but I'm not expecting it.

I'm hoping he opens with the Kerouac song, "Home I'll Never Be." I figure it's fitting for a road show in towns where you can actually stay in hotels named after presidents.

that'd be a great song to open with.
back in '96 he did a show where he played a version of his Down There by the Train. I'd so love to hear that, and I hope he has a version of it on the Oprhans box set coming up.
