Milan setlist (first night)

Teatro Degli Arcimboldi, Milan, Italy
July 17, 2008

Lucinda
Way down in the hole
Falling Down
November
All the world is green
Black Market Baby
Hang down your head
Misery is the river of the world
Eyball Kid
On the Nickel
Tom Traubert's Blues
You can never hold back spring
Innocent when you dream
Lie to me
Hoist that rag
Trampled rose
I'll shoot the moon
Jockey full of bourbon
Dirt in the ground
Make it rain

Hold on
Goin' out west
Anywhere I lay my head

hello hank from gent, heard that you are belgium and happened to meet raymy somewhere at a TW concert...well let me tell you I met him too, and we had a hell of a time, haha...
Well this was my first TW concert and I was really blown away, as you could have guessed...I have been following the setlists and I had my favourites I really wanted him to play like CCFHiM or Chocolate Jesus...well he didnt, but instead we got a whole bunch of other songs he has never played on his tour so far...and let me tell you hearing him play Mathilda live was just one for the ages...and guess who was at the concert, Roberto Begnini, just dropped in five minutes before they got started, he got a standing ovation from the crowed, his appearance just added to already hyped up atmosphere...
At the beginning Waits seemed a little reserved, didnt talk to the audience until he sat behind the piano and actually dedicated On the Nickel to Roberto...that was I think the turning point in the concert, from there on it just started to get better and better with almost each song...he might have gotten in a little melancholic mood playing for roberto, so I think that's why he continued with Mathilda...beautifull... I think the piano stuff was the best part of the concert, finished it off innocently...

after this the audience was really into it, after a long applause he comes back and, no, he wont top it off, all the extra songs were just played really slow, with him being at the guitar...left us somehow confused because he surprised us again where we didnt expect it, you should have heard that going out west version, I secretely wished he would play it a lot more aggressive than he did, but all in all it was a solid final.
I think that he played a very strange setlist compared to the other concerts before, but for me it couldnt have been any better. Remarkable evening. After agreeing on that, Raymy and I wondered off impersonating...well give it a guess...
The postparty at Triky's Castle was just rubbish, I wondered who organised that, wasnt a party at all, the pub closed about half an hour we got there, fortunately other places were open til about dawn...
Last, I wanted to mention Elisa, we met her after the concert. She is doing some kind of documentary on TW fans, and as far as I remember she will be touring the concerts to find out why you are so obsessed about TW, wanting to know your story...she is great and I hope that other fans will give her some useable material as well, we did our share...so if you see a lady running around with a camera near concerthall, especially afterwards, dont be shy spilling your heart out...AND ORGANISE SOME DECENT POSTPARTY!!!

it wasn't on the nickel he dedidecated to 'our friend Roberto', it was you can never hold back spring.

what a setlist... His voice was so great, aspecially on the piano.
I only thought the volume was a little low. somebody in my block screamed "turn the volume up".

But besides that, a dream of a concert.

sorry for the mistake, yes did dedicate you can never hold back spring to roberto...another thing came to my mind after talking to raymy, he said that this might not have been the official setlist tom actually planned out to play...cause in the first half of the concert he seemed to change a song in the last second, even after the band started playing...personally I didnt notice that, but it might explain the very unusual combination of songs he played...so I am not sure how many times he did this, but it certainly happened once...

Question: What was that joke Tom pulled in Italian? I speak the language pretty well, but didn't manage to hear what he said.

Domanda: Non sono riuscito a sentire lo scherzo che Tom ha fatto in italiano al concerto del 17, potete spiegarmi cosa ha detto?

Thanks / Grazie

The joke that you were wondering about (4'10'' in the video up here), Milano - first night...

Tom said: "All day long, people on the street, in the hotel lobby, in taxi cabs, etc. have been coming up to me and saying: 'Tom, vadavia-i-ciapp'... What is it? Something like 'Volare'?... Or maybe 'Welcome to Milan'?"...

Well..... "vadavia-i-ciapp", in milanese dialect means "vai a dare via le chiappe" (Italian), which could be translated as "Go give your ass away"... Or simply "Fuck you".

Tom, vadaviaiciapp!
I am still laughing!!!!

I was just wondering if TW ever comes to the stage door to meet fans?

anyone met the man after the show or does he not go in for that at all?

A group of us were waiting in Birmingham, AL (U.S.) to see if Tom would come out after his sound check. The crew actually moved a large back case to block our view then Tom came out the door, directly into the tourbus, waving his hand up above the black case, briefly saying hello, but obviously not wanting to stop and chat.
