Tom Waits as a hobbit?

Unconfirmed, but way too nice not to mention it: according to Aintitcool.com, Tom Waits is rumoured to be offered a part in director Peter Jackson's big-screen version of J.R.R.'s Tolkien's classic novel The Hobbit.

UPDATE (Dec. 8th): In a statement to Paste, Waits’ publicist said, “No one has contacted him about this role.”

Awesome. I told my 7-year-old daughter (we're reading "The Hobbit" at the moment) and she said: "I guess he'd have to be one of the trolls — because the dwarves would have to be good singers."
