And the Dutch choir Blue Moon sings some Waits as well... 

Blue Moon is performing Waits at the Brecht festival in Deventer (The Netherlands) on March 13.

November's Boulevard of Broken covers and (un)related items

A nice collection of covers is listed over at Guitar Woman: Female tribute to Tom Waits - vol. 3. And if you've missed vol's 1 and 2, you can find the track lists here.

The upcoming debut album from N.A.S.A. (North America/South America) - a band made up of Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon - boasts a track where Tom Waits finds himself in the company of Kool Keith. The song 'Spacious Thoughts' is streamed in Pitchfork Media.

You can also hear the track over at ANTI, on the blog.

On Atmosphere's album When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold you can find Waits beatboxing on the track The waitress.

Paul Westerberg has released a mini-album called 3oclockreep featuring some Waits input: a sound collage contains about 10 minutes of outtakes from Tom Waits in the studio with the Mats (aka The Replacements), circa 1989. It's available at Tune core

Some cover news;

Joan Baez covers Day after tomorrow on her album Day after tomorrow.

Hall Ketchum covers Yesterday's gone (although I'm not sure this is the Waits song or just another song withthe same title) and Jersey Girl on Father Time.

The Young Republic covers Tango 'til they're sore - listen to it over at Song By Toad.

And then there is the Southside Johnny cover project. The album Grapefruit Moon: The Songs Of Tom Waits will be released on September 2, but is now already listed on SSJ's own site and on Amazon. The cd accompanying the September issue of Uncut magazine includes Walk Away from the forthcoming CD, a track which features Tom Waits himself.

The Boulevard of Broken Covers - December 07

A nice one to start this edition of The Boulevard of Broken Covers: the soundtrack to HBO's hit series The Wire. This includes four versions of Way down in the hole: by the Blind Boys of Alabama, The Neville Brothers, DoMaJe and Tom Waits himself. Steve Earle's version, which was also used in the series, is missing. Release date: January 8. 

Tyler James covers Shiver me timbers for Paste magazine.

Mark Erelli covers Innocent when you dream on the album by the same name.

Holly Cole covering Waits is not exactly news, but at CBC Radio, you can listen to her live versions of Invitation to the blues and Shiver me timbers.

And I'm sure you all already knew, but  Robert Plant and Allison Kraus cover Trampled Rose on Raising sand.

And still no word on the long-expected Johansson album. Should you happen to have her telephone number, I'd be more than happy to give her a ring to try and find out what's the delay.
