Damn he've left all the world is green in chicago...!?

He'd repeated himself in the first couple songs, and caught himself repeating a stanza in "Christmas Card..." He just said, "Hey, we've already been over this! Well, you know, some people need to hear it twice...I understand..." and moved on to the next verse. Excellent. :D

lost at the bottom of the world...damn! surely this song will be on the boxset, i love it from the european recordings!

In one of the later songs the crowd got so into clapping along Tom had to stop. "...it's just displaced enthusiasm...maybe you could just groove silently to yourselves..." And no one clapped any further. "Goin out West" was a great closer as I'm still singing it. I just wish he'd played something from Rain Dogs. His voice seemed to get more comfortable after the solo songs. An amazing show. I'd certainly go again if I could.

this was a great show i am so jealous of anyone who has tickets in ohio i just couldn't afford to and now i see it would have been worth going into debt and an eight hour drive ... it was awesome how he worked in the crowd on it rains on me and to hear christmas card THAT was very awesome and very unexpected you raindogs in ohio must be in for a special treat if he is digging that stuff out... the set list you posted looks right on spot i cant think of any other songs that it's missing and the order looks correct from my notes

This was the best concert I have ever seen. My first tom waits concert was better than I could have hoped.

I was about a mile away in the upper balcony, so it was hard to hear him speaking... could someone fill me in on some of the things he was saying? especially when the obnoxious fans kept shouting stuff at him, Tom said something like "you know what's more beautiful than 2 roses on a piano? Tulips (two lips) on a..." penis sounds like it would make sense, but I honestly couldn't hear the punchline.

Part theatre, part concert and a show like no other. Every detail was carefully thought through to create the package. The ticket process gave us seats at face value, the venue was perfect, the lighting/shadowing was genious and the performace was one of a kind. And like the great performer he is, it left us all wanting more.

"The only thing better than roses on your piano is tulips on your organ...I can't believe I said that." ;D

What else did you miss? I might be able to fill you in. He talked about not wanting to be called a great bowler and how hard it is to find a bad cup of coffee these days.

It was an amazing concert. I'd go again in a minute, but I'm resigned to the possibility that it was a once-in-a-lifetime thing for me.

Saw him in Chicago and Detroit...Detroit was MUCH better. I was in the fifth or sixth row in Chicago - dead center, in the first row of the balcony in Detroit but it was still better. I'm a Chicago native but I also have to say you folks as a crowd were also much more enthusiastic and I think Tom appreciated it.

Thanks Nora! I caught a few things here and there, but the mic (and his voice) were so low from up there that anything I heard was of the same partial-sentence / made-out-a-word-here-and-there quality. especially when the crowd was bantering with him. it was hard to hear what he was saying if he wasn't the only one talking. I think he was saying something about Detroit (my kind of town, selling out in 10 minutes, kind of long & hurt his feelings), but mostly that whole bit was pretty lost before it reached me.

Christmas Card From A Hooker in Minneapolis!!! I am sooooooo jealous, that is my favorite of the older songs. I saw the Memphis show and we didn't get that one or Blue Valentines.

Saw the Detroit show. I'm so happy I finally got to see Tom live. My only disappointment is that the set favored a bluesy feel and rarely captured his experimental side. I was hoping for more surrealistic junkyard carny nightmare numbers like "Singapore" "Clap Hands" "The Black Rider" "16 Shells" or something really lively like "Step Right Up," but I guess beggars can't be choosers. As it is "Eyeball Kid" was the artistic apex of the evening for me. "Circus" was eerie but mostly unintelligible and "Shake It" worked like a charm. The sound quality was pretty great, but the volume was a smidge too low for the upper balcony. Still, I'm just happy to have experienced it.

We got 'Tom Trauberts' in Nashville which was a doozie but I must admit I like "Xmas card from a Hooker' even better.....bet that was phenomenal.

I loved the show and have seen TW a couple times before. I did feel it was a bit short though (under 2 hours) and he could have returned for a piano number at the end.... in fact I was shocked "Going Out West" was the end of the show. Anyways, Shake It, Christmas Card, It Rains on Me and Falling Down were hilites for me. Great show!

This was my first Waits show and I feel like it was everything I'd hoped it would be. I enjoyed the bloozy feel of the show and the band was fabulous.

This is the second concert I've seen in Detroit, (the other being Paul Westerberg at the Majestic in 2002) and I have to say that Detroit audiences are great. I do hate the yelling out of song titles, but that happens everywhere. "Detroit. My kinda town." I liked that.

my first tom waits show, my first trip to detroit. what a ghostly vacant downtown! lots of houses where nobody lives (sorry I just couldn't help it). a tiger's game across the street. couldn't have been better! the view from the balcony was fantastic, the sound was great. Tom was all I expected him to be and the length of the show wasn't a complaint given that there was no opener. the banter and two encores gave the crowd a little pat on the back and I left feeling like if it hadn't been for having to piss in a beer cup during shore leave I would have just had the perfect night. now, come to Canada so I don't have to cram onto a bus for 6 hours next time!

Does anyone know a good fan community where I might find a bootleg of this show? I was there and just want it as a keepsake. Pretty much just for the version of Goin' Out West. Killer version.

Raindogs FTP is good and has ALOT of stuff, but there is noting from this tour up yet. Hopefully soon! Just google raindogs FTP!

Audience recordings of this show and several others from this tour are available at www.dimeadozen.org

Incredible performance. "Christmas Card" was the highlight of my life.

Here are some of the comments I caught at the show. Tom handled the audience banter well. Asked one shouting guy if he was still living at the airport. He told us he liked us. Tom said if we wanted we could hand our measurements to one of the ushers & he'd have hard shell cases made for all of us so we could travel with them. He said it would be fun and dangerous. He also told us that the tickets for the opera house were sold out in ten minutes. He paused while people cheered & then he said, "Frankly I was a little hurt. But, I know you have lives, jobs."

There's a bootleg video of "Fallin' Down" on www.youtube.com. Looks like it was filmed from the back right of the audience. Not great quality, shaky camera work, but neat nonetheless.

Astonishingly delicate, intense, and beautiful performance. I was sitting with people from New Brunswick, Montreal, and Chicago, and we were all just blown away. I think Tom's entrance and his presence on stage was the most amazing I've ever seen in concert, and I've been going to concerts since I first saw the Who in 1969.

"Get Behind the Mule" was out of this world.

does anyone know where the song "Lost At The Bottom of the World" actually comes from ? is it a waits composition, if so what record would i find it on..?

I've waited 20 years for this show and was not disappointed. The greatest birthday gift I ever received. My 19 year old son is now a devoted Waits fan. What album is the song 'It Rains On Me' found on? Is this unique to his live shows?

"Rains on Me" is on Chuck E. Weiss album "Extremely Cool" And it is EXTREMELY COOL.

The anonymous Canadian must have had too many brews across the street. I'm so glad I missed the peeing in the cup. Thanks for the ticket.

Great Show!!!

What a great show, I last caught Waits in Ann Arbor at Power Center. At that show he must have sang half of the songs thru an actual bullhorn. Prior to that caught him as a youngster playing at MSU in my freakin dorm auditorium circa 1977. All in all he is a true original and classic.

Yeah, he said "So this show sold out in ten minutes. [pause] That's fuckin' slow! I'm hurt, yeah, but I'm working through it." LOL

I've seen what people are here calling "Who's been talkin'" as "Cause of it all". I believe I have Howlin' Wolf using both of these titles and maybe more.

Thanks! I have part of the setlist from Atlanta, and "Cause" is all I can read off it.
