I love Tom, but must say this hype for a video is a real disappointment. I don't mind being teased, in fact, I enjoyed it. I think this time, Tom let his fans down with what feels like having your chain yanked. I went to bed last night dreaming of some cool tour stops. I even woke up several times in the night and checked his site. Sorry, but the suspense was hype and the outcome anticlimactic. Damn. Too bad really because the "suspense" detracted from what is really a phenomenal video.
I feel the video is kinda interesting, but I'm not so sure it really fits the mood of 'Hell Broke Luce' itself. I feel the track is more serious in tone than the actual video, which is more funny and cool.
Decided to write a post about this on my blog as well. I love news from Tom, but I hope this isn't everything he's up to these days.
Just watched the video by Tom Waits that has been released today and it leaves me (almost) speechless. Not only do I find it a beautiful movie (the contact person was right, it is a movie, though not the 2.5 hours live registration that I had expected), but I am also moved that this anti-war song and movie have been made. And then even by the musician that I love most of all musicians on this earth. Really beautiful. Mr Waits and your crew: thanx a lot!!! - An old raindog
Genius video.. a beautiful nightmare. He seems to be keeping Bad As Me alive with this and the tv appearances... I smell live dates in the not too distant... would love to hear this song live
" As most of you guessed, it's a tour...a tour de force!
Matt Mahurin has created an apocalyptic war dream to accompany the song HELL BROKE LUCE. Kathleen and I envisioned it as an enlightened drill sergeant yelling the hard truths of war to a brand new batch of recruits. The video grew from the gnawing image of a soldier pulling his home, through a battlefield, at the end of a rope.
The above, according to Pitchfork: Of the clip, Waits offered the following statement in a press release, poking fun at those who assumed he would announce a tour:

Damn. Just a video. A GREAT video... but, like everyone else, I WAS hoping for a tour... Oh well. Next time :)
BTW - TOP work there from Matt Mahurin. A man responsible for most of my favourite videos of all time.
cool video, but a little disappointing- was hoping for tour dates
cue the air leaving my hopeful lungs.............but agreed, great friggin video.
OK, great. I waited for a video that won't play since I'm in the wrong country. This really sucks :-(
Beautiful video. His best ever. But Jesus, I really had high hopes for another tour . . . definitely nothing short of disappointing.
But perhaps this will all still lead to a tour. Wishful thinking.
What a tease, though. Goddamnit.
The video is nice, made with an aesthetic sense that exposes a field of a variety of potential interpretations. But I don't like the song too much.

A truly stunning video to surely the most powerful anti war song ever written

It's a video, yeah, and what a video it is! A classic, just like the song itself.

I think you will agree, it's uplifting and fun."

Oh he's building to something. that is what he is building in there.
Came here to leave almost exactly the same comment that Rich4art did. Really a shame they chose to be big teases about a damn music video.
