A new (?) version of Tom Waits' performance at the Dead Man Walking benefit concert has surfaced on the Oddities&Rarities Youtube account. The post also includes a download link for the 4k video.

The band consisted of Stephen Hodges (drums), Smokey Hormel (guitar, banjo), Larry Taylor (bass) and Ralph Carney (saxes).

For the closing song, Innocent When You Dream, Waits was joined by Bonnie Raitt on guitar and John Densmore on tambourine, and Eddie Vedder, Ani DiFranco, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett and filmmaker Tim Robbins on backing vocals. 

The event at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium was organized on March 29th 1998 to benefit the organization Murder Victims' Families for Reconciliation and featured performances from artists on the Dead Man Walking movie soundtrack, including Eddie Vedder, Ani DiFranco, Lyle Lovett and Steve Earle.

 

Tom Waits in documentary on homelessness 'Ultima Fermata'

Italian tv channel RAI3 is showing Ultima Fermata (Last Stop) on Thursday evening (11.10 pm), a documentary by Angelo Loy, Martino Mazzonis and Luigi Montebello about homeless people in the US. According to RAI3, Tom Waits “returns to play exclusively” for this program in the Il Fattore Umano series. “With the poems taken from Seeds on hard ground, the musician acts as a counterpoint to the landscape of faces and situations recounted in the documentary.”

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performances released

According to Billboard, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be releasing recordings from performances from HoF induction ceremonies between 2010 and 2017 in a variety of formats on April 24.

Five digital Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame: In Concert digital albums, covering two ceremonies each, with bonus performances by - amongst others - Tom Waits. At his induction ceremony on March 14, 2011, Waits played four songs: Make it rain, Raindogs, House where nobody lives and Get behind the mule (with Neil Young). Other inductees that year were Alice Cooper, Art Rupe, Darlene Love, Dr. John, Jac Holzman, Leon Russell and Neil Diamond.

Four DVD's and two Blu-rays, featuring 53 live performances from the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 induction ceremonies, will be released on the same day as the digital albums.

Long time no see: Tom Waits on stage

Various media outlets reported on a (short) performance by Tom Waits last Monday night, when he joined Mavis Staples on stage at a Lagunitas Brewery in California to perform Respect yourself.


 

Expanded Black and white night coming

Legacy Recordings and Roy's Boys LLC are releasing an expanded version of Black and white night, the Roy Orbison concert where Tom Waits was one of the backup musicians.

This release to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original album is scheduled for February 24 and will contain alternate versions of six songs (offered as a digital download with the cd) and the addition of another song to the dvd. That dvd is a re-edited version, using never-before seen footage.

Additionally included is a brand new 33-minute mini-documentary consisting of rehearsal footage and pre and post show interviews with Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and more (no explicit mention of Tom Waits) and a photo montage consisting of 20 still photos from the show and new photos of show memorabilia.

Tom Waits to perform on Letterman's Late Show

According to Consequence of Sound, Tom Waits will be performing on CBS's Late Show hosted by David Letterman.

David Letterman has just 28 episodes left before he signs off as host of CBS’s Late Show. As you might expect, a number of entertainment’s biggest names — from actors, to comedians, to musicians — will be appearing on the show in the coming weeks to bid Letterman adieu.
On a musical front, perhaps the biggest highlight is Tom Waits. The reclusive musician has been a frequent guest of the Late Show over the years, most recently appearing in 2012 in support of his last album Bad As Me. It’s unclear if Waits will be performing on the show, but if he does, it’ll mark his first time on-stage in nearly two years. Update: We’ve confirmed Waits will be performing.

Cinemablend, Deadline, Pitchfork and Entertainment Weekly also carry the news Waits will be appearing on the Late Show (they do not use the word 'performing').

Bridge School Benefit concert stream with Waits as an 'added bonus'?

The Saturday webcast will be available for viewing again Monday -Wednesday and will include the Tom Waits performance form Sunday as an added bonus.

 

It's worth mentioning a similar announcement was posted on the Bridge School Benefit Facebook page but that message was taken down quite quickly.

Tom Waits will perform a full acoustic set featuring songs from Bad as me for the upcoming Bridge School Benefit on October 27 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, California. He will be accompanied by David Hidalgo (guitar), Les Claypool (bass), Casey Waits (drums) and more.

Letterman and Fallon performances announced

It's no longer a rumour, it's official (again).

Tom Waits will appear on late night television for Letterman on July 9 and Fallon on July 10. He will be talking with the hosts and giving the first live performance of songs from his latest recording, Bad As Me. Musicians joining Waits on stage include his son Casey Waits on drums, long time bassist Larry Taylor, guitarist David Hidalgo, keyboardist Augie Myers and guitarist Big Bill Morganfield.

Tv performances postponed

According to Jambands.com, Tom Waits has postponed his appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. 

There is no official announcement by record company Anti (who confirmed the perfomances a couple of days ago) or an indication as to why, but Jambands does add that Waits plans to reschedule his appearances 'at a later date TBA'.

Letterman and Fallon performance confirmed

Record company Anti has confirmed Tom Waits will be performing on the Late Show With Dave Letterman (April 24th) and on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon (April 25th).

It remains a mystery as to what gems the iconoclast will chose to perform on those stages…but he will be talking with the hosts as well as playing songs for the very first time live from his latest, Bad As Me (...).

Letterman performance?

Earlier today, Interbridge.com, which lists upcoming performances in US television shows, mentioned Tom Waits alongside 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin as a guest on the Late show with David Letterman on CBS  on Tuesday February 21st.

Mr. Waits' name has been taken down, but knowing his reluctance in announcing performances, this does not mean he will not be appearing (although it hardly means he will either).
