Orphans spotted in the wild

The first copies of Orphans have found their way to the homes of a few Dogs.

As with his last few albums Orphans has made its way to the stores the weekend before its official release date. The two bonus tracks "Dog Treat" and "Missing My Son" are hidden at the end of disc three. Slightly disappointed with the packaging. Lyrics and twenty pages of photos. For some reason I had it in my head that there would be commentary and information given on the nature and history of the recordings (maybe because the promotion boasted a 94 page booklet). It still sounds great though.

Just got my copy. Cannot wait to properly delve into it, but off to a great start! I was one of the first to order mine at the local independent music store and the handed me a signed copy! That is why you support the little guys!

Unrelated but kind of connected so worth a mention: Directer, Robert Altman died on Monday 20th November, aged 81. For more info go to:

Possibly Waits' best acting performance came in Altman's Short Cuts.

Listen to what Altman had to say about Waits (and his music) in 2002.

Thanks so much for that, Mahood! Altman was a real hero of mine, so to see that was so poignant.

Mine still hasn't arrived. Perhaps that's the downside to finding the best UK deal on the price (£17.95/$34.37).

Poetic justice: just as I awoke this morning, feeling relatively fit after after a nasty stomach bug had spent days attacking my insides, the reassuring thud of parcel on my doormat mat was like birdsong to these ears. As to the packaging, by the way, I'm astonished that anyone would be disppointed by it. It's exquisite, and I for one would like to congratulate The X-Ray Book Co. for their sterling work.

As I write, Tom's awesome take on 'King Kong' is filling my lug'oles. The collection as a whole is a wonderful as I'd hoped.

(And I'm working on a riposte to Tom Robinson's crass review.)
